It Is Not Your Metabolism’s Fault!
What is metabolism?
Believe it or not, some people think metabolism is an organ in the body, like the liver or the heart. Well, it is part of the body. But it is a combination of all the chemical processes in the system that keep you alive and your organs functioning, like breathing, repairing cells and digesting food. Metabolism can also have an effect on your weight, and people who have difficulty losing weight, have been heard to blame it on a slow basic metabolism rate, or BMR. They could be putting the blame in the wrong place.
Am I fat because of a slow metabolism?
Numerous studies conducted worldwide have not found any evidence to support this theory. Research has also shown that people eat much more than they think they do. If you take some time to write down what you eat on a daily basis, you might be in for a surprise. You could be fat because you take in more calories than you are burning, and the eating and burning ratio is unbalanced when it comes to losing weight, and keeping it off.
What can I do to speed up my metabolism?
You cannot speed up your metabolism, but there are certain foods and drinks that can BOOST your metabolism, and get it operating more efficiently. You can also increase your level of physical activity to help burn excess calories.
Here is a list of foods which can help to boost your metabolism:
- Eggs. Eggs are loaded with protein and vitamin D.
- Lean meat and lentils. Both are packed with iron. An iron deficiency will impact negatively on the efficiency of your metabolism.
- Chili peppers contain a chemical compound which can seriously boost your BMR.
- Whole grains like brown rice and oatmeal are rich in fiber, help your body burn more fat and boost the metabolism.
- Green tea contains a natural compound which increases the BMR, and helps to speedily burn fat.
How to keep your metabolism working effectively.
Try not to have a big meal too late in the evening. A late meal could make you sleepy and, and as metabolism slows down during sleep, the food not converted into energy will be deposited into the fat cells you are trying to shrink.
The solution is to eat as early as possible in the evening and don’t skip breakfast. A good breakfast will shift your metabolism into a higher gear which will last all day. Also, drink some water before and after you eat. The full feeling will help to keep your metabolism operating at an optimal level.
