THE KEY TO MAINTAINING A HEALTHY WEIGHT
A daunting task!
For many of us, once we have reached a healthy weight, the idea of maintaining it, seems like a mountain we have to climb. However, this goal is not as difficult to achieve as it may appear to be.
It matters not whether you are at home, work or play, just a few simple, permanent lifestyle changes will be amazingly beneficial to your general health as you take control of your weight.
Maintaining a healthy weight lowers the risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, gallstones and even certain types of cancers. You will certainly look better, have more self-confidence, and of course – have a great deal more energy.
A growing global predicament.
Obesity affects many people worldwide. No nationality, ethnic group, or age group is excluded. Medical experts universally agree that this problem is mainly due to overeating, plus an unhealthy diet, and poor lifestyle habits. Some people freely admit to being overweight, and are really prepared to do something about it.
Others consider themselves just a little more than pleasingly plump, and are content to stay as they are, until a serious health disaster threatens to overtake them. Fat babies and fat children often become fat adults, and can face a lifetime of health issues.
Some health risks of overweight, obesity and bad eating habits.
- Coronary heart disease from arteries blocked or narrowed by fatty deposits.
- High blood pressure or a stroke, as the heart struggles to pump blood through narrowed arteries.
- Type 2 diabetes. Research has shown that most people with diabetes are, or have been, overweight.
- Abnormal blood fats which lead to high cholesterol and blocked arteries.
- Obesity also raises your risk of colon, breast and gallbladder cancers.
Making sure your diet is healthy.
There are some proactive things you can put in place to help drop the weight, and maintain an ideal weight.
Appetite control. Eat when you are hungry, and not because you have been conditioned to eat at lunch, tea and dinner time. Keep your portions small.
- Stay away from fast foods and convenience stores.
- Avoid foods made from refined sugar and flour.
- Eat fruit and vegetables every day and always opt for lean cuts of meat, and skinless chicken.
- Get moving with some regular exercise on a daily basis. Being physically active will burn extra calories.
Who is obese?
A recent American National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, showed that people who are obese, are not always particularly heavy. They concluded that obesity can be defined as being overweight – and physically inactive. Because inactive people rarely use their large muscles, they have lower amounts of lean tissue, and higher amounts of flabby fat. This unhealthy, unattractive state is a sure sign that you may be obese.
